Year 3’s Roman Workshop at Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery

Last week Year 3 ventured down to the Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery, taking part in a workshop all about their history topic, The Romans. Led by the wonderful staff member, Rose, the children took part in a variety of tasks such as building mosaics, designing their own Roman coin, with their face on as the emperor or empress of Rome & even dressing up and prepared for a battle. At the start of the session the children were given a lot to think about. Could people from the future identify our items and their uses like we have done with Roman items, such as a strigil or tersorium (sponge on a stick to wipe bums). After the workshop, Year 3 went down into the Roman part of the museum, reading about a variety of items such as different coins, pickaxes, vases & bowls. The children had a wonderful morning!
