Minecraft Education

These past few years, St. Winefride's has made a firm commitment to delve deeper into the digital world. This started with the upgrade of the network across the School, new year Chromebooks for all classes, then the release of the School digital advert, followed by the launch of our brand new School website.
To be used throughout KS2 in computing, we are excited to announce that we have partnered with Microsoft in subscribing to Minecraft Education - a fantastic educational resource that we are beyond excited to be able to use. The app features the classic Minecraft approach to the computing curriculum, such as block & string coding, AI & online safety and game creation for Years 5 & 6. But Minecraft Education does not stop at Computing. It allows teachers to explore an alternative way to teach ratios, fractions, area & perimeter and the basics in maths. Chemistry, physics, planet earth and even rocket science in Science. Foreign languages, classic literature and comic books in Literary Skills. Art & design is inherited into Minecraft, so Minecraft Education excels in endorsing creative freedom with pixel art or architecture. Social studies allows children to learn about WW1, the ancient Egyptians or experiencing the firsts of our World in an environment that they familiar with.
When lessons are over and the fun can begin, Minecraft Education allows classroom sized servers where all the children can collaborate and create whatever they decide, truly letting their imagination run wild, in a safe and monitored environment and workspace, enhancing our pupils' learning experiences at St. Winefride's.
Stay tuned for the first project that the children in Computing Club are working on. We cannot wait to see the children learning and playing in a setting that they are encouraged to express their creativity.
