Year 4-6 River Dipping

Low river levels coincided with warm weather for the first time this year, and Years 4 and 6 made the most of it with a combined River Dipping Trip to the Reabrook Nature Reserve. The aim was to collect and identify fresh-water invertebrates as part of our Science topics. Using nets, trays, magnifying glasses and the water current, we collected various larvae, pond skaters, leeches and other creatures, surrounded by the tranquil Shropshire countryside. Well, it was tranquil until we got there - the birdsong was soon drowned out by the squeals of excited children who ended up suitably soaked and filthy, but extremely pleased with themselves... To round off a great afternoon, we concluded with an ice cream at the marvellous Gelatistry.
